Annual Salary
Professional and Technical Staff salaries are determined by internal consistency and job marketplace conditions. Salaries for the appropriate bargaining unit employees are determined through the collective bargaining process. Salary schedules will be recommended for updates/changes to the Board of Trustees, based on the data reviewed to reflect comparable/competitive salaries. Timelines and guidelines will be published and distributed prior to each market salary survey.
Salary supplements are not incentive awards and will not be incorporated into base salary for computations. All supplements are additions to the annual salary, and are not a part of the regular contract.

The daily rate of pay for Professional and Technical Staff is determined by dividing the annual salary by 238. The number of duty days specified in the employment calendar is adopted annually by the Board of Trustees.
Back | | | Exempt vs. Non-Exempt Classification
Classifications are declared exempt or non-exempt, based on information provided by the Fair Labor Standard Act. Exempt employees are not eligible for over time.
Back | | | Extra Pay for Teaching
Professional and Technical Staff teaching classes for extra pay shall be paid according to the provisions of the salary schedule at the extra pay rate for full-time employees. The teaching of the instructional activity must be performed outside the employee’s normal workday. Professional and Technical Staff cannot be paid overload.
Back | | | Flex Schedule
A flexible summer work schedule may be adopted by the Board of Trustees on a yearly basis. The flex schedule is intended primarily for staff and can be implemented by discussing departmental work schedules with appropriate supervisors. The form for reflecting the modified workweek is available on the Personnel Operations web site. This form must be submitted and approved before the change in work hours occurs. These modified work schedules are to be approved by the appropriate Vice President or Provost prior to implementation in each department.

An employee who occupies an authorized position requiring a normal work schedule of either 37.5 or 40 hours a week, who is paid semimonthly, who receives all benefits afforded to full-time employees, and who participates in a retirement plan established by Florida law.

All Professional and Technical Staff required by the College to be on-call after their regularly scheduled work hours, will be paid a supplement of 2 hours of straight time per day while on-call. In the event a non-exempt (hourly) employee is called to work after their regularly scheduled work hours, the employee will receive a minimum of two (2) hours overtime.

If defined as non-exempt, The overtime rate of one and one-half times the employee's hourly rate will be paid for over forty (40) hours worked during one week. (See Policy 6Hx2-3.04)

An employee who is being paid on an hourly basis and receives no benefits. In certain instances the employee may participate in the Florida Retirement System.
All part-time employees are classified as temporary. New contracts for part-time employees must be generated on-line for the new fiscal year.

Employees hired on a part-time basis will be paid the hourly rate designated in the part-time salary schedule and pay grade.

Part-Time On-Call
Part-time employees employed on an on-call basis who are called in to work, must be paid for a minimum of two hours. Employees will be paid for all time worked over two hours.

Probation
All Professional and Technical Staff will serve a 120-day probationary period, excluding holidays, from their effective date of employment. Employment during the probationary period is at the will of the College and may be terminated at any time. No salary increase will be granted upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period. Reclassified Professional and Technical Staff must serve a one hundred twenty (120) day probationary period in the new position.

Reclassification
For each approved reclassification the employee will receive a 5.0% increase per pay (never to exceed 10.0%) or a minimum of the new grade, whichever is greater. In no case may the new salary exceed the maximum of the new grade. Employees reclassified must serve a one hundred twenty (120) day probationary period in the new position. For position classifications that have multiple grade levels (i.e., Tradesworker I, II, III) the employee may be recommended for reclassification by their supervisor. The following criteria are required: one year in lower level position; an above satisfactory annual evaluation; and the minimum qualifications for the higher level position.

Salary Increases
Salary increases for Professional and Technical Staff may be recommended by the President to the Board of Trustees. Salary increases shall normally become effective at the beginning of the contract year – July 1. Any increases granted by the Board of Trustees may not place any employee’s salary above the maximum salary level for their pay grade.

Semi-Monthly Salary
The semimonthly salary for all employees on a 12-month calendar is determined by dividing the annual salary by 24. For those on shorter length contracts, the salary is divided by the appropriate number of pay periods.

Shift Differential
Full-time non-union employees working 50% or more of their shift after 2:00 PM will be paid a second shift differential of twenty-five cents ($.25) an hour. Full-time non-union employees working 50% or more of their shift after 12:00 midnight will be paid a third-shift differential of fifty cents ($.50) an hour. Union employees, please refer to the Federation of Public Employees Contract.

Sick Leave Incentive
Any Professional and Technical Staff who has not used sick leave for six (6) consecutive months, will be entitled to a one time payment of one hundred dollars ($100.00). To be eligible for this payment the employee must have reported on all scheduled work days, exclusive of personal leave, funeral leave, vacation leave, military leave, jury duty leave and workers’ compensation leave, and worked the complete shift. The employee must notify his/her supervisor by completing the Sick Leave Incentive Form. Upon verification of the claim, the payment will be issued on the next scheduled pay date. Starting Salary
In the employment of a Professional and Technical Staff, the minimum starting salary shall be determined by appropriate placement on the Professional and Technical Staff Pay Plan.

Temporary Employee (Full Time)
A temporary Professional and Technical Staff member is to be paid based on the position’s placement on the Professional and Technical Staff Pay Plan. An exception may be made in the event an employee is to be temporarily assigned to an area other than the current location. In this situation the employee will retain his current salary, unless the new duties include increased responsibilities. If so, an appropriate salary adjustment may be made temporarily. A permanent employee who is on a long term leave of absence or a leave of unknown duration may be replaced by a temporary employee who may receive benefits. The term of employment is of a temporary nature, having a starting and termination date. All temporary employees terminate employment June 30th. New PR’s must be generated before July 1st of each fiscal year. All temporary employees may be terminated at any time and without notice.

Transfer
When an employee is transferred or reassigned to a classification within the same pay grade, no salary adjustment will be made. If an employee is transferred or reassigned to a position in a lower pay grade, a reduction in salary may follow. For an employee transferred or reassigned to a higher position, please see Reclassification. The salary adjustment will be recommended by the Personnel Operations Department and approved by the Vice President for Finance and Human Resources or his designee. The extent of the reduction must involve consideration of the employee's work experience and what affect the placement would have upon the morale of employees performing similar functions or having comparable responsibilities.

Work Week
Professional and Technical Staff work either a 37.5 or 40 hour, five (5) day work week, as defined by their position. The workday is 7 ½ hours or 8 hours depending on the position. A typical 37.5 hour work week would be defined as 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break and two 15 minute paid breaks per day. A typical 40 hour work week would be defined as 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break and two 15 minute paid breaks per day. These may be combined to use as an hour lunch break. Variations of these hours may be established within departments where hours need to be varied to address departmental needs. The number of hours worked in a day, however, should not vary from the established 7.5 or 8 hours.
