If you are interested in working on P'an Ku, you should probably look over the rest of this website if you haven't done that yet. P'an Ku has been a part of BCC for over 40 years. The mission of the magazine is to feature, share, and encourage the creative efforts of the students at BCC. This can't be done without a dedicated staff. Over the years, I think dedication has taken on different meanings. I don't expect staff members to spend 24 hours a day thinking about and working on the magazine. It would be nice--but unrealistic. Staff members need not be English or art majors. You need not desire a career in publishing. You just need to feel that what we do here is important and provides a service to the college and all its members . If all you want is to have your work published, then it's not necessary to be a staff member. In fact, that's the last reason someone should be involved with the magazine. The amount of time you commit to the magazine and what effort you put into it is totally up to you. You may only be interested in one aspect of it. I like to involve as many members of the staff as possible in all aspects of the magazine, especially the selection of work. That way, what is in the magazine each semester has a better chance of reflecting the interests and tastes of our diverse student body. If the work causes people to stop and think, shed a tear, or get angry--all the better.
You don't need prior experience for most positions with the magazine. I can teach you what you need to know. There is limited financial aid for editors and those who really put forth an effort. The real reward, though, for me has always been having that magazine in my hands at the end of the semester and, further, knowing that it's in the hands of thousands of other people, and knowing that I had something to do with that. If you understand that feeling, join me this school year.

Submission forms
The deadline for submissions for the spring term is Friday, March 21, 2008. Please pay attention to the submission guidelines.
Poetry and prose submissions (five [5] poems, any length, style, or language and two [2] pieces of prose, 5,000 words maximum)
should be attached to an email as Word documents.
Photography and art submissions should be in TIFF format, at least 300 DPI and in the size appropriate for the magazine (8 1/2 by 11"). If the file is too large for email, send digital versions on a CD to South Campus address.
Photographs and artwork can be submitted to South Campus address or left in the Art Department on Central Campus (Building 3)
or the English Department on North Campus (Building 47) or the Student Life Office at your campus or center.
