BCC team strikes gold, silver at Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run
Broward Community College’s mens’ teams finished first and second in the Education Division and women’s teams finished second and fourth in the 11th annual Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run, held April 3 at Huizenga Park in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The college’s fastest finisher on the 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) course was Marvin Conerly, an academic resources technical support supervisor from the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus. Conerly covered the course in 18 minutes, 37 seconds.
The race returned to its original home after six years at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, and drew 4,385 participants from corporate and government entries. Like many of the squads competing in the run, BCC’s 42-member team wore T-shirts specially designed for the race. Students in Professor Alicia Sobchak’s graphic design class were asked to submit designs and student Carl Engelsman, whose design combined elements of a stylized runner and BCC’s logo, was judged the winner.
