Earth Day 2008 STUDENT




The Committee on Environmental Sustainability is proud to announce that student exhibits, recycling information, a Graduation Pledge table, and sustainable food provided by Whole Foods Market® Coral Springs will highlight this year’s Earth Day festivities. The week of April 21 will celebrate the new wildflower plantings throughout BCC campuses.

 

April 21

Wildflower Week displays: Student poetry and posters inspired by Florida’s native wildflowers will be on display for the entire week at the BCC/Broward County North Regional Library. Admission is free.

Two contest winners and one guest each, will win a guided canoe tour of the Matheson Preserve’s mangrove habitat and picnic lunch in a fisherman’s secret treehouse with the Wildlife Research Team.

April 23

Campus Cleanup: Students and staff at North Campus in Coconut Creek will participate in a campus cleanup from 2 to 4 p.m. sponsored by the Business Professionals of America, a student club. The cleanup will serve to rid the campus of litter, but also to raise awareness of the importance of environment of environmental stewardship. Admission is free. The event starts at the breezeway of Building 46. Gloves, bags and water will be provided. Participants are urged to wear closed-toe shoes, long pants and sun protection.

April 24

Wildflower Week program: Coconut Creek city officials will join with members of the North Campus community from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the BCC/Broward County North Regional Library auditorium. David McLean, a local horticulturist, will present a program on using wildflowers in native landscaping. Winners of the student poetry and poster contests will be honored and a reception will follow from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Admission is free and the public is invited.
