BCC Education Major Requirements

  1. Complete the following three common prerequisite courses at the freshman/sophomore level:

    EME2040 Introduction to Education Technology – Student will develop skills and competencies, which are essential to integrate technology into the delivery of classroom instructions.  Students will survey a variety of traditional and emerging technological tools and systems in a classroom environment.  (Prerequisite: basic computer skills)
    EDF1005 Introduction to Education – This course focuses on teacher preparation issues for the 21st century, emphasizing diversity, social problems, legal issues, and curricular themes.  It provides an overview of the American education system and an introduction to the teaching profession.
    EDG2701 Teaching Diverse Populations – Upon completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the basic concepts, perspectives, and impact of current and multicultural diversity issues on the teacher, student, and educational system as a whole.  Students will also understand and appreciate the local, state, and national implications of these issues.  (Prerequisite: EDF1005)

    **Both EDF1005 and EDG2701 require 16 hours of field experience.


  2. Complete the following additional course requirements:

    51 hours must be chosen from the following liberal arts and science areas:
    a) communications;
    b) mathematics;
    c) natural and/or physical sciences;
    d) fine arts and/or humanities and
    e) social sciences.
