Step #1
Review the Getting Started area: Click on the Getting Started link on the left navigation menu. Take the e-Learning Readiness Quiz to determine whether e-Learning is a good choice for you. If the quiz confirms that e-Learning will probably be a good option for you, then continue with steps 2-6 below. If the quiz suggests that e-Learning may not be a good match for you, then consider registering for a blended or web-enhanced course (See Course Formats).
Step #2
Check the course schedule: Use the Course Schedules link on the left navigation menu to verify that the courses that you want to take are available. Read the course notes and the course information to determine whether the courses you want to take have required on-campus meetings for orientations, tests, presentations, labs, etc. Before registering make sure that you can attend required on-campus meetings. If you are uncertain which courses you need for your program, lists of program requirements and electives can be obtained through the Degrees and Programs link on the left navigation menu.
Step #3
Check your computer hardware: Verify that your computer hardware meets the following minimum standards before your course begins. If you do not own a computer, or if you have difficulty configuring your computer to meet these standards, you can use a BC lab computer to access your e-Learning course and complete assignments. Click the Student Resources link on the left navigation menu, then select LRC Services to see a list of LRC locations with open computer labs.

Step #5

Check your computer's pop-up blocker settings: BCC's e-Learning course software uses small browser windows to deliver content. Some pop-up blockers interpret these windows as pop-ups and block them. If a pop-up blocker is installed on your computer, it must be turned off before you log in to your e-Learning courses. To disable the pop-up blocker for your computer's firewall, click the appropriate link below and read the information about disabling pop-up blockers. If there is no link, refer to the Help feature in the affected program. An alternative to turing off your computer's pop-up blocker is to add the e-Learning server address of https://elearning.broward.edu to the list of allowed sites for pop-ups. This can be done within the browser application, and/or any third party pop-up blocking software.
Step #6

Check your computer for other required software: In order to view specialized web content in some courses, you may need special "plugin" programs that can be installed on your computer to permit you to view specialized web content. Your instructor will can tell you whether specialized software will ne needed. Click on the Student Resources link on the left navigation menu, then select the Software Resources link for a list of "plugins" that you can download and install.
Have you successfully completed all 6 steps? If yes, then you and your computer should be ready for e-Learning! |
