Every year BCC hosts an informative orientation in AUGUST that is designed to give newly hired full-time faculty relevant information about the College. The New Faculty Orientation for 2006-07 was held on August 15-16 at the college's Central Campus. The Agenda this year opened with an overview of the Educational Master Plan by Ken Ross, offered a comprehensive explanation of FERPA: Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act by Elaine Cohen as well as a presentation by Russ Adkins and Faculty Technology Associates on Teaching with Technology. After lunch, several faculty members (Trish Joyce, Gary Kay, Jean Kouch, Claudia Shagun, Winston Thompson and Joyce Walsh-Portillo) shared valuable information in a session called Faculty-Facilitated Discussions. To complete the sharing of information, a final session called Opportunities for Professional Growth was conducted by Genevieve Chung, Marcial Echenique, Jodie Fry, Jody Harris, Jose Macia, Behnoush Memari and Joyce Walsh-Portillo.
On August 17, the Holcombe Institute assisted with the Marketplace at the OMNI Auditorium on North Campus where academic support services/programs were showcased. Immediately following the Marketplace and light breakfast, new faculty members and administrators were introduced to the Welcome Back Gathering by either President Calderon or their respective campus Provosts.
 | Following the program, a workshop on brain-based learning was provided for College Prep/ESL and SLS faculty and administrators. Dr. Rita Smilkstein, the author of We're Born to Learn (shown on left with Trish Joyce) conducted the workshop where copies of her book were distributed to participants. |
