Study Abroad 2010 Programs at Broward College

Earn college credit as you explore ancient lands, study the works and artifacts of world famous museums and learn about the architectural wonders of the ancient and modern world. New study tours are created each year directed by qualified college faculty.

Limited Summer Scholarships for Study Abroad are available for summer programs until the application deadline in mid-February 2010.  Contact the faculty coordinator for the program or the Study abroad office for an application form.

To learn more about each of the Summer 2010 study abroad programs listed below, students are encouraged to attend one of the Study Abroad Information Sessions that will be held during International Education Week (November 16-20, 2009) at each of the following campuses. Institutional programs for 2010

Summer in Spain

Students from Broward College and around the country have enrolled in this program for over 30 years making it the longest continuous study abroad program offered by BC.  Seville is an enchanting city over 2000 years old founded in Roman times.  The remains of dozens of cultures with have invaded the city are still ever present in the streets and cafes of Seville.  Our summer in Seville is a four-week study abroad program for intensive language and cultural acquisition from May 28 to June 30, 2010 at the

International College of Seville, Spain

Six college credits in Spanish and Culture and Society of Spain are offered.
Fall and spring semester length programs are also available with additional course options provided.

Cambridge University International Summer School, Cambridge, England

(July and August mini terms) 
The University of Cambridge recently celebrated its 800th year of existence.  No other institution has such a tradition.  Students will enjoy exploring this amazing university and its surrounding city.  Just one hour from London, Cambridge is easily accessible by rail.
Two or four week long summer study abroad experience in Cambridge, England as a part of a statewide consortia of public colleges and universities. More information.  

Program offers up to six credits in English, history, science, humanities or other fields.

Egypt Study Abroad (May 25 to June 7)

Back by popular demand, this two-week program will continue our long tradition of African Summer Study Abroad programs.  Egypt offers students the rare opportunity to study history and culture in the ancient cities of Memphis, Abu Simbel, Aswan, and Cairo.  It includes a six-day cruise down the Nile River to visit ancient temples, pyramids and museums which offer a glimpse into Egypt's rich past.  College credit available in History Study Abroad, by Professor Kisha King, History, Central Campus.

Mexico Study Program (3 weeks from mid-May to early June)                                     
This will be the 19th consecutive year for this outstanding study abroad experience.  Students continue to enjoy the natural setting of this program which includes hiking, swimming and other outdoor activities and a unique cultural immersion experience. You will visit the Yucatan Peninsula and the region of Merida, Mexico.  Six credits in Anthropology (Professor Mark Tromans) and Spanish for Travelers (Professor Claudia Sahagun) are offered.

Italian Language and Culture (July 1-August 5)
Study art and Italian language at the University of Urbino.
Previous knowledge of Italian is not a requirement. Language classes are available at the various levels and students who want  to improve their language proficiency will be placed in language classes according to their ability.  Also available to students will be a Film Studies course with an emphasis on Italian cinema.  This course will be offered in English.

Urbino is a small, picturesque Renaissance city in the northeastern part of central Italy.  It is about 40 minutes away from the beaches of Pesaro, Rimini and Riccione and three hours from Florence and Venice, and four hours from Rome. Our students have the opportunity for total immersion into Italian life and culture, and constant use of the Italian language.

French Language and Literature (July 2-17, 2010)

French language and World Literature (with a strong French emphasis) will be the academic focus of this program.  This program will be based in Paris with excursions to Normandy and Mont St. Michele (along the north coast) and Versailles near Paris.  Students will enjoy exploring the museums, monuments and iconic world famous sites of the City of Lights!
