Typically graduates with an Aviation/Airport Operations Management degree will find positions as: Airport Information Specialist (Communications Center), Airport Operations Agent, Airport Operations Senior Agent, Jr. Planner with an Airport Consulting Firm, Airport Security Compliance Specialist, and an Airline entry-level management position maybe in sales. What is the difference between Aviation Operations degree and Airport Operation Management degree? Which major should I choose? Aviation Operations is more of a generic aviation-related degree for those seeking a variety of industry-related positions with airlines, FBO’s, sales, etc. Airport Operations Management includes airport specific coursework and internship experience working directly with operations people at certified airports. It's more for those interested in the day-to-day airport operations. 3. Are there any courses that I can take in the Airport Operations degree that we can use for the air traffic controlling training? Many students have done coursework at BCC and transferred to Miami-Dade's ATC program. Best to examine the ATC course requirement at MDC and see exactly which courses are similar to our's. 4. What is the difference between air traffic controller and an Operations Agent? An ATC person requires highly specialized training in the specifics of controlling and directing aircraft. An Operations Agent at an airport is concerned with the day-to-day activities, maintenance and operational aspects of keeping the airport running. Although an operations officer may be involved in the "escorting" of aircraft across active runways, they are not involved in directing and controlling aircraft on the ground or in the air. They do work with the controllers in keeping them advised of runway conditions or airport environment irregularities which could interfere with aircraft. 5. What is the starting pay range for these positions? The pay range goes from $12.98 to 21.39/hour. Approximately $27,000 - $32,000 per year. However, pay ranges vary depending on geographic location. 6. What type of job placement is available? The College provides job connection opportunities and internships to provide direct job networking avenues. 7. Do you offer internships for operations? Real-world experience is gained through internships with Ft. Lauderdale/ Hollywood International Airport and Miami International Airport. 8. How long does it take to complete Operations degree programs? A degree can be completed in as little as two years. |
