Placement Testing

​​Placement Testing Procedures for BC Online Students. 

Broward College uses the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) as its primary placement mechanism. Broward College also accepts SAT, ACT, or Accuplacer Scores for placement purposes. These four test types will determine where a student begins in English, reading, and math. Scores must be less than 2 years old to be considered valid. 

Students who
do not need to submit valid test scores:
  • Students who have successfully completed college level coursework in math, reading and English, either here or at another nationally or regionally accredited post-secondary institution 
  • Students who meet Florida’s Developmental Education Exemption criteria

Students who live in Florida:
  • BC Online students who live in the state of Florida and can make it to a campus can take the PERT at any of Broward College’s testing centers or submit valid SAT or ACT scores.
  • BC Online students who live in Florida but are not near a Broward College campus may take the PERT at any of the state colleges in Florida or submit valid SAT or ACT scores. 
    • A proctoring fee may be charged for the PERT Test.
    • Placement test score reports must be sent via fax from the external testing center coordinator directly to Doris Butler at 954-201-7379 or directly to bconlinewhctes​ting@​​broward.edu. Scores must be sent directly from the external testing center to Broward College to be considered valid.​​​

Out-of-state students:
  • Submit valid SAT, ACT, or Accuplacer scores
  • Acuplacer Test must include three subtests:
    • SS- Sentence Skills
    • EA- elementary Algebra
    • ​RC- Reading Comprehension
  • Students can visit www.accuplacer.org for help finding a location that administers the Accuplacer test. 
  • Out-of-state testing centers may charge a proctoring fee.

PERT Testing Procedures at Broward College
  • Students taking the PERT for the first time will be given a testing slip by the Admissions office once they are admitted to Broward College. Students must bring the signed testing slip along with photo ID and application fee receipt to the testing center. Please visit the testing center website for contact information for all of Broward College’s testing centers. 
  • Students seeking to retake any portion of the PERT must obtain a signed testing slip from a BC Online advisor and pay a $15 re-testing free. Students must bring the testing fee receipt and photo ID to the testing center.
