An Associate of Science (AS) degree in Broward College’s Building Construction Technology program gives you a competitive advantage in South Florida’s booming construction industry as new, more complex building methods and materials create a need for professionals with up-to-date knowledge and skills. By the time you graduate, you will be well-equipped to manage the construction of a full range of structures, including:

Classroom Experience
The Building Construction Technology program emphasizes hands-on, real-world applications of construction management methods. Your training will be focused on the latest state-of-the-art techniques as well as the fundamentals. Our curriculum allows you to create a foundation for a career in construction management and supervision, and offers a clear-cut advantage in today’s competitive job market. Courses focus on:
  • Building codes and standards
  • Managing construction projects
  • How to coordinate with local infrastructure
  • Working with construction documents
  • Creating project estimates and schedules
  • Understanding basic principles of construction law

Class sizes in the core program are small, with about 20 students on average for each class. The intimacy of small class sizes gives you the opportunity to build camaraderie with your classmates, in addition to asking questions of your professors without having to compete for their attention. 

Classes are located at the Willis Holcombe Center in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, and are conveniently offered in the evenings and Saturdays. Our program and faculty’s flexibility make it possible for you to earn your degree even if you are employed full time.

Career Path
Technological developments and a growing population drive the demand for graduates of the Building Construction Technology program. Job growth nationwide will rise at an average level, with a 16% percent increase in new jobs for construction managers expected through 2022, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Nationally, salaries in construction management range from
$49,680 to $144,520.

Broward College is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC) to award associate’s degrees in Building Construction.
All full-time and adjunct professors are active in the construction and/or A/E industry. Many are licensed contractors and/or hold MS degrees in Construction Management.

Broward College’s experienced faculty and local industry leaders such as the Association of Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC), the Stiles Corporation, and the Pirtle Construction Company have collaborated to develop a curriculum that addresses the construction industry’s specific needs in Broward and South Florida. The relationship between our active professors and industry leaders produces graduates with relevant training and provides employers with capable employees.
Courses in Building Construction Technology focus on construction management skills and helps satisfy part of the eligibility requirements for the Certified Residential Contractor's License exam. To complete the associate’s degree program, 60 credits are needed, which generally takes two years to complete if you enroll as a full-time student. An 18 credit certificate is also offered. It provides basic knowledge needed for employment in the industry and can be rolled into the A.S. degree program.
