Full tuition and fee scholarship (up to $7,000 per year) for completion of AS/BS in Environmental Science degrees.

Several junior students (60-89 credits earned) are being sought for participating in the STRIDES program starting Fall 2019.

Eligibility Requirements

  1.  A student receiving an S-STEM scholarship funded by the National Science Foundation must:
  2. Be a US citizen, national, refugee alien, or permanent resident alien;
  3. Demonstrate financial need, based on the standard forms submitted to the Financial Aid Office and as defined by the U.S. Department of Education rules for need-based Federal financial aid Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);
  4. Enrollment or intent to enroll as a full-time student in the Environmental Science degree program, maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

 

Eligibility for the S-STEM scholarship cannot be determined until the results of the FAFSA are received and verified by the Student Financial Aid Office. Scholarships will be based on financial need, with the maximum S-STEM STRIDES scholarship capped at $7,000 per year.

 

Scholarship Requirements

  1. Maintain full-time status, i.e., minimum of 30 credits per academic year;
  2. Demonstrate academic ability and professionalism. Each candidate will be evaluated and interviewed before the scholarship is awarded;
  3. Work closely with academic advisors and enroll in Environmental Science classes that are designed by the program;
  4. Participate in all required activities, including monthly meetings with advisor/mentors, seminars, career workshops or other academic support services.

 

Procedures to Apply for a Scholarship – Your application must include ALL of the following

  1. Complete the 2019-2020 FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov
  2.  Complete and submit the S-STEM STRIDES application below;
  3. Write a short statement detailing your desire to enroll full-time in a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science degree program and intended career goals;
  4. Submit one to two letters of recommendation from a faculty member or employer (at least one letter must be from a science instructor at either the high school or college level). Please send the letters to csammon1@broward.edu​;
  5. If you have attended another college/university and the official transcripts are not yet on file with BC, a copy of each transcript must be sent. An unofficial copy is acceptable for this application and can be sent to csammon1@broward.edu (please note that official transcripts must be submitted to BC per College policy);
  6. Sign an agreement indicating that you will participate in scholar activities such as seminars, career workshops and advising sessions.
  7. For junior applicants, please include a note in the personnel statement box stating that you are a junior.
