Dear Broward College community:
We welcome the Substantive Change Visiting Committee from the Commission on Colleges (COC) of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) March 22-25, 2009 to Broward College. During their visit, the Committee will have an opportunity to experience each of our campuses and interview faculty, staff, and students. The Committee's focus is on our new Teacher Education Baccalaureate Program, which commenced this semester with 55 students enrolled on South campus, and to review the College's continuous compliance with the Principles of Accreditation of SACS as we transition from a Level I to a Level II institution, accredited to offer Baccalaureate degrees.
Broward College values the peer-review spirit of the accreditation process as part of the College's solid commitment to its learning centered philosophy, prioritizing student learning outcomes assessment at the core of our institution's mission. In the past two years, our College has worked hard in assuring that the planning and implementation of our new Teacher Education Program is aligned with the College's vision to making student learning central to all decision-making components of the College. The accreditation process is part of Broward College's journey to endorse the best possible teaching and learning practices that serve our students and promote academic success.
The SACS Visiting Committee will contribute valuable insight to the College's existing efforts to student learning and institutional assessment. I know the BC community joins me in welcoming the Visiting Committee in their guidance during this important Substantive Change as part of the accreditation process.
