Draft 2008-Espinosa and Rose | Two Seahawks Selected in MLB Amateur Draft | | Sophomore 1B Tito Espinosa and Sophomore RHP Chad Rose Selected in the 15th and 16th Rounds Respectively | | .jpg) | Davie--The long standing tradition during head baseball coach Bob Deutschman's tenure at Broward Community College has been to advance players to the top four year schools in the country and having players use their time to prepare to sign professional contracts. Once again, the 2008 campaign has continued the tradition.
On day two of the 2008 MLB First-Year Amateur Draft the Seahawks had to players selected in consecutive rounds as well as a former player selected.
The Kansas City Royals made sophomore 1B/C Tito Espinosa (Miami, Fla.) the first to be selected as they drafted with the third pick in the 15th round (445th overall). The Seahawks did not have to wait long as sophomore RHP Chad Rose was drafted in the 16th round (497th overall) by the Colorado Rockies.
Espinosa, who was an all-state selection by the FCCAA, led the way for the offense this year while spending time both as a catcher and a first baseman. Although the Royals drafted him as a first baseman, likely will be bringing his catchers mitt as well to Idaho Falls, ID to give the Idaho Falls Chukars some versatility.
Rose, who transferred from Manatee Community College, will bring his excellent arsenal of stuff to the Rockies and will begin his career in Casper, Wyo. for the advanced rookie ball Casper Ghosts. Rose signed with the Rockies on Sunday and will be reporting on Tuesday, June 10th.
Former Seahawk, Adan Severino, was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 26th round (786th overall) out of the University of Miami. Before he negotiates with the Twins, Severino will be trying to help the Hurricanes win the NCAA Div. I College World Series.
