Men's Basketball 2007-08 Season Recap Men's Basketball Season Ends in State Tourney 23-8 Overall 6-6 Southern Conference
|  | | Dennison and Sabo lead the way for the Seahawks | The BCC Men's Basketball team season came to an end in the semi-finals of the state tournament at the hands of Okaloosa-Walton C.C. 95-74. The Seahawks, who finished 7th in the final state poll (Feb. 29), won the Southern Conference Tournament as the #3 seed by defeating Miami-Dade College 69-65 to qualify for the state tournament.
The year was led by sophomore standout guard Tony Dennison (Long Island City, N.Y.). Dennison was named the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year for the 2007-08 season which was capped by second-team All-American honors by the NJCAA. As a freshman, Dennison was a first-team All-Southern Conference selection as well as a third-team All-American by the NJCAA. Dennison is the second player under coach Bob Starkman's tutelage to be named conference player of the year and an All-American (Nate Daniels).
Dennison, who will be attending Hofstra University on a basketball scholarship, followed up his freshman campaign were he finished second in the NJCAA in scoring (27.7 ppg) and first in the state, by finishing seventh in the country in scoring (24.1 ppg). He also finished second in the state in steals per game (4.5) and field goal percentage (64.9%). He also finished third in the state in 3-point field goal percentage (47.6%).
Joining Dennison at Hofstra University will be sophomore power forward Miklos Szabo (Szeghalom, Hungary). Szabo led the entire NJCAA in rebounding (15.3 ppg) and averaged 13.9 ppg as he made the first-team All-Southern Conference for the second year in a row.
Freshman guard Devon Peterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a breakout year and made the first-team All-Southern Conference, averaging 19.6 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.9 steals per game.
Freshman guard Jamaal Bryant (Pittsburgh, Pa.) received second-team All-Southern Conference honors averaging 11.4 points per game, and leading the FCCAA in steals (4.8) and assists (8.2).
Although the team will be losing two key all-conference players, the team looks to build on this years success next year. Coach Starkman has now finished his seventh season at the helm of BCC Men's Basketball program, and has compiled an overall record of 139 wins to only 70 losses (.665).
The Seahawks finished fourth in the state in team scoring (83.1 ppg) and first in field goal percentage (62.1%). No other team in the state shot at a 50% rate.
