2nd Year
Coach Schawe is a 1974 graduate of Hollywood Hills High School where he played Junior Varsity and Varsity Basketball. Mike’s coaching career began as an assistant to Coach Scott Hermansen at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School in 1996. Mike and Coach Hermansen worked together at Chaminade-Madonna (CM) through the 2002 season. Mike played an integral part in helping Coach Hermansen bring the CM program from a last place finish their first year to the District Championship and being state-ranked within three years. Mike also assisted Coach Hermansen with the Broward North/South Senior High School All Star Game in which the South team defeated the North team for the first time in 2000. Coach Schawe’s daughter Rachel was the game’s high scorer for the South team.
Mike and Coach Hermansen teamed up once again here at BCC when Coach Hermansen asked both Mike and his daughter Rachel to be the assistant coaches for the 2006/2007 season. During their first season together at Broward Community College they finished second in the Southern Conference, taking a team that had finished 8-20 the year before to a respectable 15-13 record.
Mike lives in Hollywood with his son Ryan and daughter Rachel and spends his spare time watching his God-daughter Renee play volleyball and cheerleading for a local middle school.
