Broward Community College (Fla.)
Hometown: Avon, N.J.
Broward Community College’s Amanda Heyl is the NJCAA Division I Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week. Heyl, a freshman right-hander from Avon, N.J., put together a string of five solid performances last week for the Seahawks, which included a pair of perfect games against Palm Beach on April 4. In the doubleheader against the Panthers, she tossed 14 perfect innings and struck out 13, including ten in game two. Prior to her perfect afternoon against Palm Beach, she tossed a pair of complete games against No. 10 Brevard on April 2. In game one, she yielded a pair of unearned runs and struck out four, earning the victory in Broward’s 5-2 win. She went the distance in the nightcap as well but was the hard luck loser in a 2-1 decision. In her final outing of the week, she tossed five strong innings against Hillsborough but came out on the wrong end of a 1-0 decision. For the week, Heyl allowed only three earned runs in 33 innings of work (0.82 ERA). Included was a stretch of 23 consecutive scoreless innings and 50 consecutive batters retired in order.
