Softball 2008 Season Recap

2008 Women's Softball season comes to end
13-31 Overall
5-15 Southern Conference

The 2008 Women's Softball campaign has come to end, finishing with a 13-31 overall record and 5-15 in Southern Conference play.  The Lady Seahawks finished fourth in the conference and two player's earned post season honors.

Freshman pitcher Amanda Heyl (Avon, N.J.) and freshman catcher Iris Kolman both were named second team all-Southern Conference.  Heyl (11-16, 3.00), who was named the RINGOR NJCAA Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 6th led the way all year on the mound for the Lady Seahawks.  Her season was highlighted by throwing a pair of perfect games against Palm Beach Community College on April 4th.

The offense was led by freshman catcher Iris Kolman (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and freshman shortstop Alicia Adeimy (West Palm Beach, Fla.).
Kolman (.253-2-16) led almost every major offensive category for the Lady Seahawks while Adeimy (.255-1-4) was the main table setter that got the offense rolling as she paced the team in hits (28) and stolen bases (6).

Overall the offense hit .205 as a team and the combination of Heyl, sophomore Lindly Theroux (Suffolk, Va.), and freshman Kirsten Beamsderfer (Sunrise, Fla.) paced the Lady Seahawks on the mound carrying a 4.24 ERA on the year.  As a team, the Lady Seahawks fielded at a .945 rate.

"This year marks the first time we had a NJCAA Player of the Week (Heyl), and played great defense all year.  Unfortunately we came up a little short on the offensive end and were unable to get the big hits we needed.  I am proud of our performance throughout the year as we maintained our competitiveness throughout conference play."
