Freshman pitcher Amanda Heyl (Avon, N.J.) and freshman catcher Iris Kolman (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) were named second team all-Southern Conference for the 2008 Women's Softball team by the Florida Community College Athletic Association (FCCAA).
Heyl was twice named the FCCAA Pitcher of the Week and once as the NJCAA co-pitcher of the week. Highlights of her year include throwing two perfect games in one day against Palm Beach C.C. on April 4. In the doubleheader against the Panthers, she tossed 14 perfect innings and struck out 13, including ten in game two. She finished the year with
Kolman hit .253 in 42 games played. She led the team in doubles (5), home runs (2), rbi's (16), total bases (38), and slugging percentage (.327). A presence behind the plate, the freshman catcher threw out 24.1% (19/79) base stealers.
Coach Brian Staubly said, "I am thrilled for their (Heyl and Kolman) post season superlatives. They both worked very hard and led us both on and off the field. With each of them returning to the team next year, I believe that we have the foundation which we will build upon."
