As certified members of the dental team, dental assistants provide a wide range of services drawing on knowledge of the dental sciences; specialized, clinically-honed skills; and proficiency in office management procedures. Dental Assistants:
- Work chair side with the dentist.
- Sterilize equipment.
- Transfer instruments during surgical procedures.
- Take impressions of study casts.
- Place and remove periodontal dressings.
- Expose, process, and mount dental radiographs.
- Prepare dental filling materials.
- Provide oral hygiene instruction.
Perform selected laboratory and clerical office procedures.
