Courses for Certification


Broward College's Teacher Education Program now offers courses that may count toward a Professional Teaching Certificate in the state of Florida. Students who have a Statement of Eligibility, a Temporary Educator's Certificate, or a Professional Educator's Certificate issued by the Florida Department of Education can register for the following courses to be applied toward a Professional Educator's Certificate:

EDF3280: Instructional Strategies

EDP4004: Principles of Educational Psychology

EDG4410: Classroom Management

EDF4430: Educational Tests and Measurements



Steps to Apply


Step 1: Complete a BC application at www.broward.edu to become a Broward College student. When completing the BC application, be sure to select Non-Degree Seeking as a major. If you have previously taken courses at Broward College, but it has been more than 2 full semesters, you will need to submit a re-entry application.



Step 2: Submit a Courses for Certification Request Form to the Teacher Education Program.



Step 3: Submit a copy of your Statement of Eligibility, Temporary Educator's Certificate, or Professional Educator's Certificate to the Teacher Education Program office. If you do not have one of these documents, please read below for instructions on how to apply: Any individual who wants to teach in the state of Florida must first apply to the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) for their Statement of Eligibility (SOE). The individual applies for the SOE online at http://www.fldoe.org/edcert/steps.asp. On the application the individual must identify which subject area(s) they would like to teach. In addition to completing the application, the individual must send official transcript(s) to the FLDOE for review. Based solely on the transcript(s), the FLDOE will determine if the individual is eligible to teach the specified subject area(s).

Step 4: Contact the Teacher Education Program to confirm receipt of documents and Courses for Certification Request Form.

Please note registration for courses in not guaranteed. Registration is dependent on seat availability and does not guarantee campus location or time. Registration is completed by the Teacher Education Program approximately one week prior to the start of classes; an email confirmation will be sent to you after registration is complete.


Students taking courses for certification need to submit the Courses for Certification Request Form and the Statement of Eligibility/Teaching Certificate EVERY TERM they wish to take courses.
