About e-Learning

BC offers three e-learning course formats through Blackboard, its learning management system (LMS).

1. Web-Enhanced Courses

Web-enhanced courses are traditional classroom-based courses that meet regularly on campus, but use some Blackboard tools and features to enhance teaching and learning. Faculty can enhance communication with students with Announcements and Mail, engage students will Discussions, give students 24x7 access to course materials, post and receive student assignments electronically with Assignments, and providing students immediate feedback with Grade Book.

Web-enhanced courses are an excellent choice for faculty who either prefer traditional, classroom-based instruction, or want to become more comfortable with e-learning before moving forward to develop and teach blended/hybrid or online courses.

Click the Procedures link on the left navigation menu for details on the steps you must take to be able to teach online.

2. Blended/Hybrid Courses

Blended/hybrid courses are non-traditional courses that replace 25%-74% of traditional, face-to-face instruction with online learning activities. These courses combine the best of face-to-face instruction with online learning. Enjoy the convenience of delivering and receiving assignments electronically. Continue discussions beyond the classroom walls. Provide useful tools for students to share information and collaborate online.

Blended/hybrid courses are a good choice for faculty who enjoy teaching in a traditional classroom, but want to have some convenience and flexibility that e-learning provides. They are also good for faculty who want to make a gradual transition to developing and/or delivering online courses.

Click the Procedures link on the left navigation menu for details on the steps you must take to teach a blended e-learning course.

3. Online Courses

Online courses are non-traditional courses that replace 75% or more of traditional, classroom-based instruction with online learning activities. These courses afford students and faculty maximum schedule flexibility because you can log into the online course where and when it is convenient for you.

Introduce yourself to your students and provide them an online orientation to the structure and schedule of the course. Organize and post course materials such as syllabus and modular or unit content online so students can access them 24x7. Stay in touch with your students through online communication tools such as Announcements, Mail, and Chat. Enjoy the convenience of delivering and receiving assignments and assessments electronically. Engage students with weekly discussions and interactive learning activities. Facilitate student interaction and collaboration with group projects, and so much more.

Click the Procedures link on the left navigation menu for details on the steps you must take to be able to teach a web enhanced course.
