EMT Job Demands

As a student in our Emergency Medical Services Program, and later as a professional working in the field, you'll encounter a number of tasks, skills and personal qualities vital to success. If you're "cut out for the job," you'll need to:

  • Lift and carry patients.
  • Possess above-average hand and finger dexterity.
  • See, hear and evaluate detail relevant to patient condition.
  • Maintain emotional stability when treating people who may be critically injured or in a state of shock.
  • Work quickly under pressure.
  • Have a good driving record.
  • Be able to work in a "team" environment.
