Environmental Science Technology

With environmental impact issues of critical concern in the early 21st century, environmental science technicians have a vital role to play. Technicians perform laboratory and field tests to monitor environmental resources and determine sources of pollution. They may be responsible for waste management operations, management of hazardous materials inventory, or regulatory compliance activities.

As environmental science technicians, graduates of Broward College’s Environmental Science Technology AS degree program find career opportunities with governmental agencies, construction and engineering firms, and environmental assessment companies. In light of the urgent need for pollution prevention products and processes, employment for environmental science technicians shows no signs of slowing. Among the key factors fueling job growth is the demand for technicians to help regulate waste products; collect air water, and soil samples to measure levels of pollutants; monitor compliance with environmental regulations; and clean up contaminated sites.
