Physical Plant

Supplies: June through November

  • flashlights & spare batteries
  • raincoats
  • roll plastic sheeting (3), duct tape (3)
  • plastic trash bags, large, 1case
  • wet vacc.,mops and buckets
  • basic handtools & fasteners

 


Condition II: Watch 48 hr.

  • review emergency contact phone list
  • check all radios and recharge batteries
  • check all exterior doors
  • fill sand bags and place near doors
  • police outside and roofs for loose items
  • check emg. generator, fire alarm and emergency & exit lights
  • contractors must secure their equipment & supplies
  • fuel mail van
  • distribute plastic & bags to departments
  • empty & de-frost mini refrigerators
  • schedule skeleton crew for category 1 or 2 storm

 


Condition I: Warning 24 hr.

  • prepare for notice to close college from President and/or Evacuation order from Broward County Emergency Mgt.
  • park van near building (If evacuation ordered, P. Maximin will park van at his home.)
  • bring inside any loose items, flags
  • turn off all elec. equipment and gas lines
  • backup computers, unplug office equipment and move to interior room
  • determine Campus Safety schedule
  • notify Campus Safety & Custodial contractors

 


Close Buildings / Evacuate

  • Ft. Lauderdale downtown to be evacuated for category 3 or above storm
  • allow 4hr. for Info. Sys. to backup files
  • shut down emg. gen. if power will be disconnected
  • shutoff exterior lighting & signs at breakers
  • secure all exterior doors
  • plan for re-occupation

 


Post Hurricane:

  • coord. opening with FAU if necessary
  • coord. with Facilities damage assessment teams
  • inspect exterior for damage
  • inspect interior for damage
  • inspect for hazd. mat. spills; diesel, lab, printing, phys. plant, custodial
  • inspect for flooding or water damage before restarting any equipment
  • check utilities; power, phone, water, sewer, gas
  • check fire alarm, emergency & exit lights, elevators, HVAC, UPS
  • rod fuel tank, test monitoring well
  • check emg. gen. and reset
  • check exterior lights & signs
  • flush plumbing if water pressure was lost, check restroom fixture operation
  • notify Facilities Management Dept. & DTC Admin. of any areas not usable
  • document damages and report to Facilities damage assessment teams
  • secure damaged areas & protect against further damage
  • perform emergency repairs and cleanup
  • utilize only approved contractors for emergency repairs and document for reimbursement
  • coord. custodial and grounds clean-up, trash/debris collection & removal
  • retrieve and store all emergency supplies
  • put up the flags
