This page provides information regarding the process of receiving financial aid as a transient student. Please review carefully to ensure that you are fully aware of the various steps and eligibility criteria involved, as well as all applicable timelines.
A student seeking aid as a transient student must log into the Florida Shines website and provide the following information:
• Student identification number and PIN/password
• Social Security Number (If you don't have a Social Security Number, please enter nine zeros.)
• Term and year when you want to take the course
• Course information, including prefix, number, title and credit hours (If you used the online course catalog to find and apply for a course, this information will be pre-populated in the application.)
The application will then be sent electronically to the home institution (Broward College). After we approve the application, it will be sent electronically to the institution (host school) where the student wants to take the course. During this process, the student will receive updates on the status via email from both institutions' (home and host) advisors. Florida Shines does not control the application process; students may check the status of their application at any time by logging into the Transient Student Admission Application. It can take up to 10 days for the institutions to process an application.
Once the application is accepted, the student will receive an email notification from the host institution that may include special information about the next steps, including information about an admissions application fee. The home institution (BC) and the host institution will work together to confirm enrollment, obtain your grades at the end of the term and release financial aid. If an application is denied, the student may contact the person who denied the application for more information. Contact information is included in the email student receives. If the course(s) is denied by an academic advisor the financial aid advisor will not receive an email.
*Consortium agreements between Private and Out of State Institutions- these agreement forms can be submitted via E-mail, regular mail, at the BC Registrar’s office, or the student can simply walk in. They must have the student section completed, and be signed and dated before processing by Broward College. Processing will occur within 7 to 10 business days.
Please note that until final grades from the host institution have been received by Broward College any aid tied to those credits will not be disbursed.
