Health Information Management - How to Apply

   

 

Qualifying for enrollment in the Health Information Management program starts with a high school diploma or G.E.D. This program has limited placement of 30 students and begins in August of each year.

  • All students must complete a BC application

  • All students must complete a separate Health Science Application to the HIM Program

  • Articulation Students should seek admission advisement prior to any course enrollment

  • All students must complete the program pre-requisite courses with a 2.5 GPA or better prior to starting the program. ANY EXCEPTION REQUIRES PROGRAM MANAGER APPROVAL.
    • HSC 1531 Medical Terminology
    • BSC 1085 & 1085L Anatomy & Physiology I with it’s Lab
    • CGS 1100 Introduction to Computer Applications

  • All students must complete the following requirements prior to admission to the program:
    • Applicants must fulfill the general requirements for admission to the Health Science Programs
    • Current medical history and physical examination
    • Florida Background screening
    • Drug screening
    • Immunization
    • Pre-Health Science Core Certification requirements
      • CAE 0299, CAE 0382, CAE 0474 and CAE 0476

  • All students must maintain a 2.0 GPA or better to remain in the program.

  • Once you’re accepted into the Program, you will need to become a student member of AHIMA

  • Any student interested or needing financial assistance should contact the Financial Aid at the college for advisement.

    Merit Scholarships and Educational Loans

    AHIMA’s Foundation of Research and Education (FORE) offers merit scholarships to outstanding undergraduate students pursuing degrees in health information administration and health information technology who have at least one full semester (6+ hours) of classes remaining in their course of study at the time the award is granted (August 31). Scholarships are also available to credentialed health information management (HIM) professionals pursuing graduate degrees in an area related to HIM practice.

    Students enrolled in Coding Certificate Programs (including AHIMA Approved Coding Programs) are not eligible for FORE merit scholarships.
