Professional Practice Experiences (PPE)
The Health Information Management Program curriculum requires two clinical site classes which are called Professional Practice Experiences or PPEs. Students are placed in local healthcare facilities for a period of 64 hours, this is usually 1 day a week for the semester. The student will be given assignments that will allow the student to apply concepts and theory learned in the classroom as well as critical thinking skills to real work environments. Students produce an assignment workbook and are evaluated by the clinical site supervisor the student works with during the semester, these are the only pass or fail courses.
There are two PPEs, one the first year and one the second year. The first year students focus on operational and functional work while the second year student will expand their understanding of operations and expand into management concepts and applications.
