Interests: I enjoy jogging, golfing, reading, and baking.
Teaching Philosophy: What excites me the most about teaching is when students begin to ask questions that relate different historical texts to one another and to contemporary issues. One of my favorite quotes about U.S. history is from U2's Bono who once said, "I love America because America is not just a country, it's an idea." I love discussing the idea of America with students--what it means across generations and to different people around the world..
Inspiration:My inspiration comes from my parents--their strength and passion for history. My twin sister and I were the first in our family to go to college and our parents encouraged us to set high goals and achieve them. When we were young they also took us to history sites anywhere within driving distance of our home in Pennsylvania. By no accident, both of us proudly majored in history and became teachers.
