| Liliana Crespi was born in Italy and thought her life was settled when, at the age of 27, a series of circumstances gave her the opportunity to visit and live in other countries. Today, after twenty years of traveling and discovering new cultures, she realized that not only had she expanded her knowledge about languages, history, and food, but she had also enriched her views on a passion she has been cultivating since she was a little girl, namely, textiles.
In her own words, Liliana has always had a "distinctive sensibility" towards art and describes how her attention was easily caught by "a particular drawing, a pattern on a fabric, or simply by the light filtering through the clouds during a stormy late afternoon." What fascinated her most were the various techniques used to turn a thread into a sweater or a lace, or a bunch of found leaves into a basket. Developing the ability to make pleasant objects with simple material was, for Liliana, particularly intriguing. After taking several art workshops, reading many books, and practicing/exploring with different materials and techniques (weaving, knitting, crocheting), she found in textiles the media that best satisfies her creativity.
Liliana has been weaving sculptures and baskets with natural fibers for twenty years, and she has been weaving tapestries since 1996, shortly after moving to Mexico. Her art is inspired by nature, its beauty, colors, forms and harmony. "Through my creations I feel connected with the world around me," she says.
