My name is Sean DeLima, I am a full-time student at Broward College in South Florida. I am a non-traditional student, in the sense that I returned to college after having developed a successful marketing company that does product placement for the Film and Television industries. Although I found quite a bit of success in the business world, I returned to school in order to pursue something with more purpose than simply finances – hence, the reason I’ve decided to pursue a path in cultural politics/education, with my current major being History.
While at Broward College, I’ve maintained a cumulative 4.0 GPA in the Honors program, and have remained an active member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. Because of my interest in the sciences, I was an Anatomy / Physiology tutor in the campus Learning Resource Center, and I was also a founding member of my campus’ Peer Mentoring Program. I love writing and literature; some of my personal work is being featured on Broward College’s online ‘Honors Showcase”. From a charitable standpoint, I’ve contributed over 350 community service hours in- and around Broward County – scattered between time with my peer mentees, and with organizations like “Kids in Distress” and “350.org”. I recently received an award for the “Most Outstanding Supporter” from the Haitian Club’s “Hope for Haiti” event to help the Haiti earthquake victims. This fundraiser won “Event of the Year” for Broward College’s South Campus, and I received the personal award for my efforts in creating/organizing the entire event.
I am currently in the process of writing a “guidebook” of sorts, which helps those individuals coming to our country for the first time – to better understand American customs and the essences of capitalism. As an immigrant myself, I feel a duty to assist others with the knowledge and experiences I have collected over the years.
In the immediate future, I have been awarded a full scholarship to attend summer courses in International Relations at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Soon after, I plan to pursue and complete a Bachelor’s degree at a top domestic institution. My plan is to major in History with a heavy focus in South Asian studies; I would like to apply this education in real world, towards a career in professorship in world of education. I also plan to have future dealings in the marketing industry, and eventually - political dealings through a cultural standpoint. My ultimate goal as a human being - is to be someone who holds himself accountable for his actions, and who leads by example to create a better place for future generations.
