Strategic Technology Plan

Broward Community College

Strategic Technology Plan (2007 - 2010)

Introduction

The Broward Community College Strategic Technology Plan must be aligned with national, state and college priorities. One of the three priorities outlined in the U.S. Department of Education’s Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2007-2012, is to “Work with colleges and universities to improve access, affordability and accountability, so that our higher education system remains the world’s finest.” Many strategies are based on leveraging technology and using assistive technologies to accomplish the goal itself. Such as: providing more efficient and cost effective delivery of federal student aid programs, (streamlining the application process), preparing adult learners and disabled individuals for college and the workplace, developing improved practices for collecting and reporting data on student achievement and accountability while encouraging public information-sharing through the provisioning of matching funds.

The 2005 (K-20) Strategic Plan of the State Board of Education is structured around priorities, objectives and projects that exceed their mission to "Increase the proficiency of all students within one seamless, efficient system, by allowing them the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills through learning opportunities and research valued by students, parents, and communities." The goals concentrate on four major priorities: student achievement, seamless articulation & access, a skilled workforce and quality efficient services. Technology should be utilized to deliver anytime, anywhere solutions and self-service opportunities that meet the demands of students, parents and the community.

The Florida Community Colleges & Workforce Education Strategic Plan provides a framework by which the state plans to increase enrollments by one-third, double the number of degrees in high demand healthcare professions and contribute one-half of the annual demand for certified teachers, as well as continue to maximize opportunities for success for all students. There are eight priority goals, which emphasize a commitment to educational equity, open-access, diversity, community responsiveness, quality, and affordability. BCC also has similar goals defined in the current Education Master Plan and our technology initiatives must support these goals to successfully accomplish our mission.
