Staff Development, Instructional Technology, and Information Technology collaborated on providing BCC employees with a web based registration system to sign up for professional development workshops and to have professional development credits be viewable on the BCC Intranet. The online registration screens were implemented in December 2005 with staff being able to register for classes being offered starting January 2006. To date, the system has proven to be a hit with those signing up for classes and especially for those setting up and administering the classes.

Russ Adkins: I am so impressed with the quality and integrity of George's work on the professional development system. It is a "best of breed", in that the web-based interface is easy for people to use, yet derives power from its connection to CID and the employee data base. From a work-flow standpoint, David is relieved of having to create a "one-off" web-based registration process for workshops and Professional Development Day. Outstanding job!
David Shulman: "The Professional Development screens, which became operational in December 2005, represent a significant labor saving mechanism for the Instructional Technology Department's workshop registration processes. Previously, each term's calendar consisted of a hand-coded set of static web pages, which required at least 8 - 12 hours of scripting and maintenance per term. What is more remarkable about the system is that faculty and staff have had almost no problems with adapting to the new system. This high degree of usability is the result of the personal interest, professionalism, and countless hours (perhaps as high as 100) of attention by George Cooke, the project leader from Information Technology. Over several months George responded to meetings, e-mails, and phone calls from Staff Development and Instructional Technology, with a positive can-do attitude that invited and used constructive criticism to produce this major application that supports all BCC employees." Kathy Lynn: "This process has been a HUGE time saver for me. I can give the workshop attendees their Professional Development credit 2 minutes after I get the roster. Faculty can check their credit and its there right away. The registration process is automatic. Attendees register online and the roster populates itself and if we have a walk-in, we can add them very easily. Another plus is that Cheryl or George are available all the time if there is a problem or a glitch of some kind.
