Transferring web pages from your local machine to the remote web server can easily be accomplished with "WS_FTP LE". Once configured for your home directory, transferring files is simply a matter of point and click.
Configuring a Session Profile
- After starting the WS_FTP application (available on all BC network connected PCs), you will see a screen similar to the one below. The first time you run the program, you will need to configure your own personal session profile.
- Make sure that you have your Novell username/password and home directory information. This will be sent to you via inter-campus mail, once the registration process is complete.
- Click on the "New" profile button
- Fill in the following fields, observing that letter case is significant !
- Profile Name: Web server
- Host Name/Address: webhome.broward.edu
- Host Type: Automatic detect
- User ID: "Your assigned username"
- Once complete, Save this session.

Click Ok
A password dialog box will appear: Enter your Novell password and hit Enter.
Once you successfully connect, the following screen will appear, showing the Local directory (your computer) on the left and the Remote system (web server) on the right. This is your WS_FTP Main Control Panel.

Notes
Before transferring any files you should first make sure that the subdirectory structure is identical on both machines -- your local copy and the remote (web server) version. For example, if your local PC directory structure looks like this:
/html
/images
That is, two (2) directories, one with html pages, and the other with graphic images. It will be necessary to use the MKDIR button on WS_FTP to make the directory on the Web server Prior to copying the files. Remember, you are creating a mirror of your local machine on the Web server.
Important Individual accounts will be hosted under a directory called:
public_html (public underscore html).
Pages must be put within this directory (or below) to be viewable. Any pages outside this directory can not be seen.
/ Your "default" directory

V
/public_html
all web pages and images must
be under this directory
While this may seem odd, it allows your page to accessed with a very short path. A typical path might be www.broward.edu/~username. The little character to the left of the username is called a "tilde" and is located just to the left of the number 1 key on the top row of the keyboard. This scheme of "public_html" directory is not used for department pages, which tend to have longer paths such as: www.broward.edu/locations/central/lrc
