Many Department of Information Technology initiatives are accomplished through the hard work and efforts of people you never see. Four dedicated, behind-the-scenes employees were recently recognized for their excellence at the most recent quarterly departmental meeting; they are, Bonnie Aubrecht, Gavin Bartholomew, Jennifer Day and Bradley Haarer. Please take a moment to learn more about these outstanding and deserving employees.
Bonnie Aubrecht
Bonnie is an important and versatile member of the information technology team, and brings a depth of knowledge from student financial services and academic affairs to the department.
She joined the BCC family in 2000 and has been responsible for the coordination of state and federal compliance data, and made our longitudinal data available for end-user access. She is good at sharing information and helping others with cross-training and reporting needs. As the assistant director for decision support systems, she played a lead role in providing quality data to support our certification as a Hispanic Serving Institution, and was a major contributor to our successful Title V grant effort. |  From left to right: Brad Haarer, Bonnie Aubrecht, Jennifer Day and Gavin Bartholomew |
Bonnie regularly attends state reporting workshops to stay apprised of new mandates, and she acquires new technology skills on a daily basis! She is a true team player and stays actively involved in committee work with administration of the Lumina and Perkins grants, while providing support information about college diversity. As a leader of the new SAS business intelligence initiative, she reflects the state-of-the-art image that Broward has in higher education.
Gavin Bartholomew
Gavin Bartholomew is a Senior Systems Engineer at the Willis Holcombe Center and has been employed at Broward Community College for over 3 years. As a part of the Systems Engineer team, Gavin is responsible for planning, managing, implementing and supporting the College’s Systems infrastructure which includes Open-Systems, Mainframe, and other College-wide Technologies. . He has a cooperative spirit and is extremely well-liked by the college family.
Gavin loves to grow his knowledge base and accepts new responsibilities willingly. He played a key role on the CID - Linux migration team, learning an entirely new operating system in a relatively short time frame, and earning a RedHat Certified Technician certification.
Gavin has an extraordinary ability to communicate complex concepts to a larger audience. He has been chosen to do one-on-one training with senior staff on blackberry devices and emergency satellite phones. No task is ever pushed aside as too trivial or beneath him, and he is easy to work with because of his collaborative approach to problem-solving and systems installation. Congratulations to Gavin for his technical competence and recent reclassification to senior systems engineer.
Jennifer Day
Jennifer is currently the assistant director for F.C.C.S.C. Application Systems, and is often also referred to as the “perfectionist.” This is a characteristic that many admire and one that teammates continuously strive to mimic. With nearly twenty years of experience as an information technology professional at Broward Community College, she simply knows everything!
Jennifer was instrumental in our successful planning, development and implementation of the C.I.D. system twelve years ago -- fast forward to today, and she still continues to be cutting edge, participating in most current major application systems. She regularly sets high standards, realistic goals, and is motivated to achieve beyond expectation. She has impeccable implementation success rates, having worked recently on at-risk student tracking, parking fees and a variety of web-based, self-service applications. She also completed technical course work in Linux fundamentals, Pearl scripting and is actively involved in a variety of professional development opportunities at the college. Jennifer is a remarkable and hard-working individual that truly deserves the recognition she has received.
Bradley Haarer
Bradley came to BCC in 1995 under a grant from Learning Resources on North Campus to create a multimedia development lab for faculty. He was instrumental in completing the first-ever virtual reality walkthrough of the North Campus library. He inherited the role of technology support “guru” for the health science facilities collegewide, and implemented video conferencing systems between the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus and the North Broward Hospital District-as well as with Edison Community College in Naples, FL.
A few years later, the college reorganized the Health Science division and Brad was transferred to the Information Technology department to enhance his current technical skills and provide collegewide support. In his new IT role as a Web specialist, he installed and configured the new version of WAM. He continues to monitor webmaster emails and helpdesk tickets on a 24/7 rotation, as well as stepping in to a team leadership role whenever necessary. He loves a challenge and is extremely dependable. He is often commended by college faculty, staff and administration for his excellent work effort and the service that he provides.
Brad adds flavor to the IT mix, bringing plenty of humor and enthusiasm when we all need it most! Congratulations to Brad on his recent reclassification to senior Web specialist and welcome aboard.
