Frequently Asked Questions

May I apply for admission to Broward College at any time?

Yes. However, there are deadlines to be admitted for each term. Please refer to the calendar for deadlines, the Admission Application and the Admission Requirements.

Does Broward College offer an English program?

Yes, Broward College offers a four-level intensive English Language Institute Program.

Do I need TOEFL or IELTS to apply to Broward College?

No. Students applying for the English Language Institute Program will not be required to have TOEFL or IELTS. Degree-seeking students will be required to have TOEFL with a minimum score of 79 or IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5. ​ 

Can I take the TOEFL or IELTS in my country before applying to Broward College?

Yes. The test is administered several times per year worldwide. Please visit the TOEFL website or the IELTS website to learn more.

If my native language is English, is TOEFL or IELTS required?

No. If English is your native language, evidence of English proficiency is not required.

Once I complete the Broward College English Program, can I continue in a degree program?

Yes. Once the English Language Institute Program is completed, you can continue to complete a degree program.

If I submit a TOEFL or IELTS score, will I still have to take an English Placement Test (LOEP) at Broward College?

Yes. TOEFL and IELTS scores are not used for placement, only for admission purposes. Confirmation of your English proficiency will be determined by the LOEP test, which you can take at Broward College.

I have limited financial resources. May I receive financial assistance from Broward College?

No. A statement of financial resources available to support your educational and living expenses must be provided to Broward College. The minimum required resources are estimated to be $22,500 each academic year.

I have completed an English as a Second Language Program at another institution. Do I still have to take the BC placement exam?

Yes. This is necessary to determine if you still need additional language training and to assist with proper placement into courses.

Does Broward College issue the form I-20?

Yes, once you have been approved for admission to Broward College.

After admission, will I be able to register for classes at Broward College before I receive the student visa?

No. You must enter the U.S. on your student visa and provide proof of the student visa before registration for classes will be allowed.

After being admitted, if I am unable to enter the U.S. by the start date on my I-20, will be able to attend classes for that term?

No. If you are unable to enter the U.S. prior to the deadline for registration on your acceptance letter, and before classes begin, you must request a new I-20 for the next available term. For initial admission to the U.S. on a student visa, students will not be allowed to enter the U.S. any earlier than 30 days before the start date on the I-20.
