Study Abroad in Germany with Broward College!

Germany

Through the College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS), students can study abroad for a semester or summer in Heidelberg, one of Germany's most beautiful and beloved cities, which has long been a center of university education. This world-famous, small romantic town is an ideal place to learn German. Located on the slopes of densely forested hills, Heidelberg is about an hour's train ride from the major urban center of Frankfurt, with access to famous scenic spots such as the Black Forest regions, and is within a few hours' drive from Munich and the Swiss and Austrian Alps.

Students can choose to participate in one of two programs based in Heidelberg:

  • Intensive Language Program (ILP) at the International House Heidelberg – Collegium Palatinum
  • European Studies Program (ESP) at Schiller International University

Intensive Language Program

The Intensive Language Program is offered at all levels by highly trained, qualified, university-educated native speakers of German. The teachers at IH Heidelberg - Collegium Palatinum hold university degrees and have teaching experience in German as a foreign language. They speak one or more foreign languages themselves and have experience working with people from various countries and backgrounds. The language of instruction is German — right from the very first lesson. The IH Heidelberg - Collegium Palatinum has an international environment. Students will be taking classes alongside other American students, as well as with students from all over the world who are also at the school to learn German. Students can choose to live with a German host family or live in a dormitory on the campus of Schiller International University, which is about a 25-minute walk from IH-Heidelberg – Collegium Palatinum.

European Studies Program

The European Studies Program combines an active interest in European and international studies with opportunities to study in many fields of business administration. The official language of instruction at Schiller is English, but students will also find the opportunity to study German at elementary and intermediate levels. Schiller has maintained a campus in Germany since 1964, and its current campus in Heidelberg offers students a combination of academic, residential, and extracurricular programming space to create an integrated intellectual community of students and scholars. Students from all over the world come to Schiller for study abroad and degree programs. Course offerings may include: Business Administration, Economics, Marketing/Advertising, Mathematics, International Relations, German Language, English Composition, History, Psychology, and more. Course offerings will vary between the fall and spring semesters. Schiller offers their courses on a monthly basis so students will register for one course per month. Students will live in one of two residence halls located on campus or about a 15-minute walk from campus.
