Summer in Germany to Regensburg, Germany

DURATION: Pre-departure:
1 week of orientation and lectures

Study abroad travel:
3 weeks in and around Regensburg including morning lectures in both subjects and afternoon required field trips to places of cultural and historic interest within Regensburg, and visits to nearby cities such as Nuremburg, Munich,
Dachau, Kelheim and Passau.

In Germany travel includes two 3-day weekend trips: one to Berlin and one to
Berchdesgaden (located in the Alps, with Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest,
Salt mines and a boat trip on Koeningsee).

After travel:
1 week of presentations and discussion of observations from
field research

ENROLLMENT: In order to ensure adequate opportunity and supervision for both coursework and field trips, enrollment must be limited to fifteen participants.

TARGET GROUP: All students are encouraged to participate, especially those with an interest in history, political science, international relations, art history, architecture, archaeology, linguistics or German language.

CULTURAL IMMERSION:
The opportunity to study in the medieval city of Regensburg, located in the heart of Bavaria in the center of Europe, will afford the student the unique chance to experience Europe’s history and culture firsthand on a daily basis. Total immersion in the German language will improve the student’s speaking, listening, reading and
writing skills, as well as his/her under-standing of the culture, in a way that is
not possible to create in a classroom environment.

COST: Between $3400 and 3900.
Studying abroad early in one’s career has always been the key to tolerance in later life. With this in mind, we have tried to keep this summer program in Germany affordable. The following price includes airfare, bed and breakfast in guesthouses, ground transportation, field trips to cities nearby, entrance fees to all museums, galleries, etc. and two weekend field trips to Berlin and the Alps: The price is based on double occupancy and does not include tuition for both classes. A payment plan is available. Final payment due 45 days prior to program departure.

DAY 1: Friday 06/26 depart MIA

DAY 2: Arrive Saturday 06/27 in Munich
Take bus from airport to Regensburg; get settled in Bed & Breakfast in Regensburg
Receive bus tickets; Go to Bürgerfest in downtown Regensburg

DAY 3: Sunday, 06/27 Organization, & orientation with professors
Tour of Thurn & Taxis Castle in Regensburg

DAY 4: Monday 06/28 First day of classes at Chamber of Commerce
9 – 11am: Government or History class; 11am – 1pm: GER 1170 German Travel Study

DAY 5: Tuesday 06/29 Morning classes
Guided Medieval City Tour of Regensburg

DAY 6: Wednesday 06/30 Morning classes
Afternoon: Train trip to Passau, including boat trip on the Danube

DAY 7: Thursday 07/01 Morning classes
Afternoon: Tour of BMW plant in Regensburg

DAY 8, 9, 10: Friday 07/03 – return Sunday 07/05
Trip to The Alps – Munich – Dachau
