Critical
Care Nursing

The
Instructional Technology Department has been at the
center of providing technolgical support and expertise
for his project. HCA Affiliated East Florida Hospitals
and Broward College are working in partnership
to provide a program that includes basic arrhythmia,
critical care and emergency nursing courses consisting
of elearning theory and hospital clinical.
Each
specialty training program is comprised of several courses,
which include didactic and skills lab, as well as, a
clinical preceptorship. The blended didactic courses
utilize Blackboard/WebCT (BC's online learning management
system) and are taught at Broward College,
with a real-time simulcast to JFK Medical Center as
the selected location for the distance classroom.
The blended approach to learning will require students
to attend classes daily with both on-line learning and
face-to-face classroom activities. Upon completion of
the classroom component, the student will complete a
clinical preceptorship.
The
purpose of this grant is to assist nurses entering into
specialty areas with a structured program. HCA employees
who are selected for enrollment into the specialty training
program shall commit to a two (2) year employment period
upon successful completion. Graduates from the program
will receive college credit, in the form of an Advanced
Technical Certificate, which may transfer to other colleges
and universities.
