Adopting Open Text Books from the Orange Grove
This workshop provides hands-on exploration and use of Open Text books and ancillary resources to provide high quality, peer reviewed texts for students. The iniative provides this level of content at a far reduced cost to students, while encouraging environmental sustainabiltiy.
Outcomes
- Faculty will understand the purpose of the Orange Grove
- Faculty will understand the purpose of the Open Text Initiative
- Faculty will search and add an Open Text to their Blackboard presence
- Faculty will search and add ancillary resources such as WebAssign to promote student engagement and success with learning outcomes

Blogging for 21st Century Student Engagement
Outcomes
- Faculty will review College policy regarding appropriate use of Internet resources to enhance teaching and learning.
- Faculty will access http://www.blogger.com and create a Google Account.
- Faculty will create and personalize their Blogs by inserting text and other artifacts into their Blogs.
- Faculty will set Blog preferences and create account parameters/ permissions for their Blog accounts including adding students as “Authors.”
- Faculty will examine techniques to guide students to the appropriate use of faculty Blog accounts.
- Faculty will identify Internet resources related to Blogging.
- Faculty will align their Blog content to College policy regarding Internet usage.
- Faculty will examine the Blog feature within the Blackboard Discussions tool.
- Interested faculty will also create a Blog to host “preview pages” to support hybrid/fully online courses.

Engaging Students through Vodcasting Using Wimba
Outcomes
- Identify how vodcasts can engage and educate students
- Plan an engaging podcast around a learning outcome (s)
- Add Wimba to a Blackboard class
- Use Wimba to create outcomes-based vodcasts as mp4 files
- Download the vodcast mpeg4 file and publish it to the podcast server
- Upload the vodcast to Youtube and embed the video in an HTML page

Engaging Students through Podcasting Using Wimba Voice
Outcomes
- Locate and use educational podcast content
- Develop a storyboard around a learning outcome
- Add the Wimba Podcaster to a Blackboard course
- Create a podcast with Wimba Podcaster and Your Storyboard
- Use RSS and subscription services to receive podcasts outside of Blackboard
- Use the Orange Grove repository to store podcasts outside of Blackboard

Facebook & Twitter: An Introduction to Instructional Applications
Outcomes
- Faculty completing this workshop will first experience an overview of Facebook and Twitter including a review of College policies regarding appropriate Internet usage and the safeguarding of students' personal information.
- After logging onto http://www.facebook.com and http://www.twitter.com, attendees will create a faculty account in each online environment.
- Faculty will then review two instructional strategies for each online tool and create two online activities using each tool.
- Faculty will then learn strategies to guide their students in the appropriate use of Facebook and Twitter accounts to support collaborative instruction and thus enhance student engagement.

Publishing Engaging Teaching Content to the Orange Grove
The Orange Grove is Florida's digital repository to educational content. This session will enable faculty to use the Orange Grove to store, organize, and reuse their cherised content with strict controls over sharing and copyright.
Outcomes
- Faculty will understand the purpose of the Orange Grove
- Faculty will search and add engaging content to their Blackboard presence
- Faculty will publish engaging content to the Orange Grove as a learning object
- Faculty will assign metadata, copyright, and other elements of workflow to their learning object
- Faculty will search and import their learning object to a Blackboard presence

Web 2.0 for Student Engagement: Create! Share! Collaborate!
“Millennial” students have access to more Web 2.0 tools than ever. This hands-on workshop will introduce faculty participants to the integrative world of Web 2.0. Participants will also explore an array of unique, integrated online tools (including online social media) for possible application in the classroom to enhance creativity, the sharing of information/ideas, and collaboration
- Faculty will review College guidelines regarding the appropriate use of Internet resources (including social media) to enhance teaching and learning while protecting the privacy of student and faculty personal information.
- Faculty will access Web 2.0 tools including iGoogle, Facebook, and Twitter.
- Faculty will access an additional variety of creativity-enhancing Web 2.0 tools already in use by educators to enhance learning.
- Faculty will examine activities that engage students in the appropriate use of Web 2.0 tools for sharing information and collaboration on projects.
- Faculty will identify additional potential resources related to the appropriate use of Web 2.0 tools to enhance learning.
