Lacey D. Hofmeyer, Esq.
General Counsel and Vice President of Public Policy & Government Affairs

Lacey Diggs Hofmeyer, Esq. is General Counsel and Vice President of Public Policy and Government Affairs.  Ms. Hofmeyer obtained her two Bachelor of Science degrees in Economics and Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her law degree from the University of Florida.  She began her career as a litigation attorney at an international law firm, becoming a shareholder in 2015.  Ms. Hofmeyer has served the South Florida Community in many ways.  She has served as a Guardian Ad Litem in Miami-Dade County, a member of the executive board of Women United of the United Way of Miami-Dade County, as a board member and officer of the Dade County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section, as a committee chair for the Dade County Bar Association, as Chair of a Grievance Committee for The Florida Bar for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit, among others.

Sonya A. Miller, Esq.
Deputy General Counsel

Sonya Audria Miller, Esq.
 is Deputy General Counsel.  Ms. Miller obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Emory University and her law degree from Temple University School of Law.  She joined Broward College in September 2011 with considerable legal experience.  She began her career as a federal trial attorney then transitioned to civil practice in both the government and private sectors.  Eventually, she became in-house counsel for a private company and then went on to Ryder System, Inc. in Miami where she served as a Compliance Manager and then Employment Law Counsel.  Additionally, Ms. Miller has a passion for serving the South Florida community where she grew up.  She was a board member of the Urban League of Greater Miami for many years, was also involved with the Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  She lives in Fort Lauderdale with her husband and two children.

Kristina A. Retana
Paralegal

Kristina A. Retana serves as a paralegal for the College and clerk to the Board of Trustees.  Ms. Retana is a South Florida native and second generation alumni of Broward College.  She is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Communication from Florida International University.  She joined Broward College in September 2011 as a part-time legal assistant and was promoted as a full-time paralegal in February 2012.  Ms. Retana began her career right out of high school as a file clerk for a small law firm out of Miami where she was quickly promoted to legal assistant preparing evidence for one of the firms' partners.  She lives in Pembroke Pines with her husband and two children.

Paralegal

Elizabeth A. Beavin is a Certified Paralegal, a Florida Registered Paralegal, and holds an Associate of Science (AS) degree in Paralegal Studies from Broward College.  She was inducted into the national honor society for Paralegals, Lambda Epsilon Chi (LEX), for outstanding academic achievement in her field of study.

Ms. Beavin has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from The University of Oklahoma in Public Relations/Journalism and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Oklahoma City University where she graduated with high honors.

Before joining Broward College, Elizabeth had a long and successful career in Human Resources at Publix Supermarkets Corporate Offices as a Specialist in Associate Relations.
