THE BROWARD SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Presents
Heat of the Snow: Warmly Passionate Music from Frozen Lands
The Broward Symphony Orchestra of the Broward Community College will perform their season opening concert on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at 8:00pm in the Bailey Concert Hall located on the BCC A. Hughes Adams Central Campus, at 3501 SW Davie Road in Davie, FL

This opening performance marks the debut of Maestra Michelle Michaelis as the conductor of the Broward Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of the finest conservatories and universities in the US and Europe, including Indiana University and the City University of New York, Dr. Michaelis is sought after both as a conductor and a concert violinist. She has worked with artists including Mstislav Rostropovich, Maxim Vengerov, Sarah Chang, Yuri Bashmet and Yefim Bronfman and became conductor and music director of the Soloists of SOHO (SOS) Chamber orchestra in 2005. A member of the L’Hermitage String Quartet, Maestra Michaelis maintains a busy performance schedule in her native New York, throughout the US and in Europe.

This concert will also feature as soloist fifteen year-old violin sensation Fabiola Kim in the dramatic and gripping Violin Concerto of Jean Sibelius. Ms. Kim made her major concert debut as soloist with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of seven. She is the winner of numerous competitions and awards, including the 2005 Aspen Music Festival Competition. Ms. Kim has already received much acclaim for both her fiery virtuosity, and an artistry and thoughtfulness well beyond her years. The program will begin with the charming Serenade, Op.7, of Alexander Glazunov, and will conclude with the monumental and breathtakingly beautiful Fifth Symphony of Pyotr Illych Tchaikovsk
