October 25-31 & November 1 – 4, 2007 : BCC Theatre presents “A Lie of the Mind”- Fine Arts Theatre. Thurs. – Sat. 8 p.m.; Sun. 2 p.m. $10, $5 faculty/staff/student/seniors.
The play “A Lie of the Mind” by Sam Shepard is a bleak and absurd portrayal of two
American families, linked by a marriage that both families dismiss or conveniently fail to remember. The explosive Jake is convinced that he has murdered his wife, Beth, who has in fact suffered brain damage as a result of his beating. At first it seems as if it is just Jake who is out of control. But as we get to know the families, we see that the play is something of a Greek tragedy. The families mirror each other. Some antics of the mountain folk prompt laughter, but before long Shepard’s play descends into tragic farce.

“The Pillowman”, by Martin McDonagh, is a chilling and suspenseful mystery about a writer whose frightening short stories of ghoulish murders suddenly begin to spring to life about town. “The Pillowman” poses thought-provoking questions, such as whether or not an artist is responsible for the actions of those who are influenced by his or her works, and the power of nature versus nurture in the development of the human spirit.
Directed by Mariah Johnson.
