Advanced Placement (AP)

Eligible secondary students may earn college credit through the Advanced Placement Program administered by the College Board. Post-secondary credit for an advanced placement course shall be limited to students who score a minimum of three (3) on a five (5)-point scale on the corresponding Advanced Placement Examination.

In order to award credit, BCC needs an official Grade Report from the College Board or a hard copy of the official high school transcript. (Students are charged a $5 recording fee)

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

The CLEP program provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate competency in certain subjects and thereby earn college credit for particular courses without attending classes.

College Academy

The College Academy, a joint venture between Broward County School Board and BCC, is an accelerated program located on the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus.  Students are provide the opportunity to receive a high school diploma and Associate of Arts degree concurrently.  Students must maintain a 2.5 un-weighted GPA.


Dual Enrollment

Students enrolled as high school juniors or seniors may be concurrently enrolled in post-secondary courses creditable toward a vocational certificate, diploma, or an associate or baccalaureate degree provided they meet program rules and regulations. Students participating in dual enrollment options must meet the following entrance eligibility requirements:

  1. Enroll in a course of study which will fulfill requirements for high school graduation
  2. Earn a 3.0 cumulative un-weighted GPA
  3. Earn minimum standardized college placement test scores delineated in State Board Rule 6A-10.0315

In order to continue in the program students must maintain a 3.0 un-weighted grade point average in high school academic work and earn a grade of 'C' or better in college-level work. Any student enrolled in a state supported post-secondary institution with whom Broward County Public Schools has an approved inter-institutional articulation agreement shall be exempt from the payment of registration, matriculation, and textbook fees. Students may register for up to eleven credits per term.

Early Admission

Early admissions shall be a form of dual enrollment through which eligible secondary students enroll in a post-secondary institution on a full-time basis in courses that are creditable toward a degree. Student must complete two consecutive terms of at least twelve (12) college level credit hours each term with a 'C' average or higher in order to receive their high school diploma. Matriculation fees are waived for a maximum of 24 credit hours.

International Baccalaureate

Eligible secondary students are enrolled in a program of studies offered through the International Baccalaureate Office.  Students shall be awarded a maximum of thirty (30) semester credit hours. Click here for additional information regarding IB course and appropriate passing scores.

Tech Prep Program

Eligible high school juniors and seniors may dually enroll in a state approved high-wage, high-skilled certificate, diploma or degree granting program at an approved post-secondary institution for the purpose of earning elective high school credit.

It is the intent of this program to augment the technical options that currently exist for high school students. Primary emphasis will be on the continued implementation of Tech Prep programs of study.

Prior Experiential Learning

A program through which secondary and post-secondary students generate post-secondary credit based on the receipt of a specified minimum score on nationally standardized general or subject-area examination.

Other Nationally Standardized Tests

Broward Community College awards credit based on receipt of specific passing grades on Dantes Subject Standardized Test (DSST) and Excelsior College Examination (ECE).  Credits awarded may not duplicate any credits earned at BCC.

Armed Services Educational Credits

Broward Community College will grant credit for military education that has been evaluated and recommended as suitable for post-secondary credit by the American Council on Educations Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Forces (ACE and AARTS).
