Change Program Objective

Use the following procedure to change a student's primary objective (Major). First consult the student as to any consequences of changing majors, such as any additional coursework that needs to be completed. If the student is receiving Financial Aid, also direct them to Student Financial Services to ensure that their new program of study will be covered. International Students must see the campus International Student Admission Coordinator to change majors. this cannot be done by a counselor or advisor.

Log in to CID. From the Student Information Systems' main menu, complete the following steps:

DIRECT COMMAND: AD SO <Enter>
STEP 1: Type MO and Student's college issued ID Number *<Enter>
  NOTE: Student’s Primary Objective (major) should appear
STEP 2: Type ‘B’ (for browse) <Enter>
  NOTE: This will list all Primary Objectives (majors) the student has had. Press F2 to return
STEP 3: Type in Action Code
  NOTE: Type ‘A’, to add a new primary objective (major)
Type ‘M’, to change to a primary objective (major) the student has had previously.
STEP 4: Tab to Program ID (degree/major code) and type degree code (major)
  NOTE: The degree code is the same except it will begin with either:
1 for AA degrees (i.e., Liberal Arts 1057, Business 1007, etc.)
2 for AS degrees (i.e., Legal Asst. 2172, Criminal Justice 21101, etc.)
A for AAS degrees (i.e., Account Technology A002, etc.)
5 for Health Science Certificates (i.e., Dental Assist. 5217, Medical Asst. 5215)
6 for Other Certificates (i.e., Accounting–General 62141, General Marketing 62401)

STEP 6:

Tab to Catalog Year, if changing catalog and type in new catalog year
STEP 7: Tab to Primary Objective and type ‘Y’ <Enter>
  Now, “Student already. . ., press enter to accept,” should appear at the bottom.
STEP 8: press <Enter> again

If done correctly, “Student Objective . . . add/modified successfully,” should appear at the bottom of the screen.

* Beginning Fall of 2006 (20071) BCC will no longer use Social Security Numbers to idenify students. All students will be issued a 9 digit number that consists of the following:

The first letter of the student's first name, 2 digits for the academic year the student began at BCC, a 5 digit random number, and one final number that is used as a check value. Yuo will still be abel to look students up by name.
