University Transfer

Statewide Articulation Agreement

Florida Community College Associate in Arts graduates are guaranteed admission when transferring to a Florida State University under the Statewide Articulation Agreement (except to limited access programs which may have additional admission requirements).

Students who transfer from one public institution to another in the State University and Community College Systems within two (2) years of their matriculation and seek admittance to the upper division come under the common prerequisite requirements of their entering catalog.

For example, a student who enters a Florida community college in Fall 1999 and seeks admittance to an upper division major for Fall 2001 must meet the major common prerequisites listed in the 1999-2000 common Prerequisite Manual. However, if the student does not seek admittance within two years of his/her matriculation, he/she will come under the manual dated two years prior to transfer. For example, if the student enters in Fall 1999, but does not transfer until Fall 2002, he/she must meet the requirements of the 2000-2001 Manual.

The State of Florida has identified Common Prerequisites for all university programs that can be accessed online through ‘FACTS’.

Florida State Universities have a foreign language requirement for admission to all programs. Students must complete two (2) years of a modern foreign language in high school. Or they may complete eight (8) credits of a modern foreign language in community college. Or they may earn the credit by exam.

Florida institutional requirements and “degree shopping” may be done online through FACTS.org

Transfer students

What are the roles and responsibilities of the advisor when dealing with students preparing to transfer?

Students who are in their final term at BCC and wish to transfer to a state university should make an appointment to see an advisor or counselor prior to graduation to ensure that they have met all graduation requirements. It is good practice for advisors and counselors to review the student's degree audit with them. you will learn how to interpret degree audits as part of your CID training.

The degree audit is reviewed to ensure that the student has:

  • completed all general education requirements and taken a minimum of 24 credits of electives.
  • either registered for, passed, or exempted out of taking the CLAST exam.
  • completed the Gordon Rule Writing requirement.

In addition to the minimum requirements for graduation, the counselor or advisor should

  • verify that the student's elective courses meet the universities required prerequisites for their particular program of study.
  • verify that the student has met foreign language requirements, either in high school, at BCC, or at another accredited institution of higher learning.
  • inform student about university visits and transfer workshops available on your campus and encourage them to research the schools they wish to apply to, with respect to academic requirements, policies and peocedures, scholarships, and financial aid opportunitiies.
