Composition (ENC1101)

Credit Hours: 3

Catalogue Course Description:

Co-requisite: None

A university parallel course in which the student writes expository themes in various modes. Research methods and library skills are introduced and a documented paper is required. Each student is encouraged to use the writing lab to strengthen writing skills. Placement in ENC 1101 is determined by both standard and departmental assessment tests. A student must earn a grade of “C” or higher to meet the requirements of the Gordon rule. Special fee charged. See student fees.

When you complete ENC1101, you should have improved in the following skill areas:

•  Composing units of discourse and providing ideas and information suitable to the purpose and the audience.

•  Transmitting ideas and information in effective written language by employing good diction, conventional sentence structure, and standard written American English grammar and usage.

•  Locating and incorporating relevant information into a paper documented internally and bibliographically.

This course is designed to assist you in writing successful college assignments. You will be asked to write fully-developed essays on a variety of themes with concise thesis statements and supporting arguments. You will be asked to revise, edit, and proofread your writing assignments or the writing assignments of your peers. A documented research paper will be assigned .

 

It is your responsibility to read the course syllabus, keep up with assignments, and complete work on time.

Pre-requisite Warning. If you were required to take ENC0021 and have not done so or if you took ENC0021 and did not receive a grade of C or better, you must withdraw from this class. If you fail to do so, you will not receive credit for ENC1101, even though you may have completed all of the work.
