Composition (ENC1102)

Prerequisite: ENC1101 with a minimum grade of C
Co-requisite: None
A composition course stressing structural and analytical writing, including narration and argumentation. Selected readings in prose, drama, and poetry supplement the course and provide topics for discussion and written assignments. Students use a variety of research and investigative techniques to produce an in-depth documented paper. Students must earn a minimum grade of C or better to meet the requirements of the Gordon Rule.

When you complete ENC1102, you should have improved in the following skill areas:
Writing a multi-paragraph essay exhibiting proficiency in organizing, developing, and expressing their ideas.
Demonstrating an understanding of narrative devices and significant themes.
Writing a fully documented paper incorporating a balance of direct quotations and paraphrases from a variety of sources.
This course is designed to assist you in learning to analyze literature through expository writing. You may be asked to perform written literary analysis, or explicate poems, short stories, drama, fiction, and nonfiction. You will be expected to produce a documented literary analysis or other type of research paper on a literary topic.
It is your responsibility to read the course syllabus, keep up with assignments, and complete work on time.
Pre-requisite Warning. If you have not taken ENC1101 (or its equivalent at another institution), you must withdraw from this class. If you fail to do so, you will not receive credit for ENC1102, even though you may have completed all of the work.
