Writing Lab Information

Location: Learning Resource Center , Room 241 (Second floor of the Library)

Although the Central Campus Writing Lab functions as an extension of the English Department's writing classes, it is a division of the Learning Resource Center. The primary purpose of the Writing Lab is to refresh and reinforce the basic skills of grammar and composition required during your college career.

Although tutors at the Writing Lab work primarily with students who are enrolled in BCC English classes, they are available to all students, especially those taking classes for writing credit. In addition to the regular staff, the Writing Lab has faculty tutors from the English Department with whom you can make appointments to discuss problems you are having with papers and other assignments.

Writing Lab tutors do not proofread papers; they will, however, discuss the format of an essay, the thesis statement, the outline structure, and the sentence structure. Tutors can also suggest computer programs and handouts that you can use to improve your writing.

Courses that have a Writing Lab requirement:

ENC0010 16 hours

ENC0021 16 hours

ENC0085 32 hours

If you are enrolled in ENC1101, ENC 102, and ENC2210, you are also are encouraged to work in the Writing Lab on your own and/or at the request of your instructor. Some instructors of other courses require a minimum number of hours in the Writing Lab. If you are a student in a literature course, you may also use the Lab.

Faculty tutors are available by appointment.
