In
2002 (the statistics of 2003 are not yet available) 17,419 people
died from alcohol related automobile crashes. With March, being the
most fatal month of drinking and driving incidents, the Willis Holcombe
Center Student Government Association, with the assistance of Student
Life, sponsored and organized the Alcohol Awareness Table on Tuesday
March 16, 2004 from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm. The purpose of the table
was to provide students with information about the health risks associated
with alcohol abuse and the dangers of drinking and driving. Students
who passed by the table were encouraged to sign a pledge stating that
they would not drink and drive on St. Patrick’s Day. In return
for signing a pledge, students were given a free Student Life t-shirt;
night students were given the choice of a tote bag or Student Life
folder. |
